SDF is a combination of silver and fluoride to help prevent and/or treat dental cavities
What is SDF?
SDF is a clear liquid that can treat small superficial cavities and prevent them from spreading to other teeth.
How does SDF work?
SDF combines fluoride and silver in a clear liquid that can be applied on affected teeth. The antibacterial property of the silver kills the bacteria that cause dental cavities. Meanwhile, the fluoride remineralizes the damaged enamel. SDF requires repeated applications to a cavity for maximum efficacy. SDF cannot be used in the presence of infection of decay into the nerve.

What are the benefits of SDF?
SDF is easy to apply, does not require drilling and is relatively inexpensive. There are no eating restrictions after the application.
Who is SDF for?
SDF is great for patients with dental phobia, children who are too young to sit still for dental fillings and special needs children (the dentist can place a filling in the treated tooth when the child is older), adults with extreme teeth sensitivity, and elder patients who have difficulty with dental hygiene.
